This was a fast race (cat3), of course a $1000 prize list will do that. I was pretty happy with my performance given the pace of the race, I'm not so sure I would have been able to finish this race a year ago. So I see improvement. For most of the race there always seemed to be 3-7 riders off the front which kept the pace high, then these riders would actually sit up after a prime sprint and no one would close the (at times <5") gap! Off they would go again! It was frustrating not being able to do anything about it, it's difficult to do anything when you are already at your limit. Had Fun and found these races to be encouraging in regards to my fitness. Doing the 40+ race beforehand wasn't going to make a difference in my result for this race, it was just plain fast.
The 40+ race was fun, pretty good pace. Basically no gas left in the tank for the final sprint. Was in position to contest a prime but thought it was for the riders up the road. Turns out it wasn't, I would've liked to see where I stand with my sprinting and recovery in a race situation. Next time perhaps.
